This mustard is literally my all-time favorite no sodium product out there. It was life changing when I discovered it, and I now buy it by the case. I know that may seem extreme, but I go through it like water. It is just so versatile, and did I mention it has 0 mg of sodium?
It also actually tastes like mustard, which is always an added benefit. Basically, when you eat this mustard, you don't feel like you are missing out on anything. Compare it to other favorite mustard brands at your favorite supermarket, and you will see how adding mustard to your recipes or just as a snack can add up:
Product | Serving Size | Sodium (mg) | |
---|---|---|---|
Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard | 1 Tsp | 50 | |
French's Classic Yellow Mustard | 1 Tsp | 55 | |
Heinz Yellow Mustard | 1 Tsp | 65 |
There are so many recipes you can use this in, that it is hard to know where to start, but I will tell you that my favorite all-time recipe that I use this mustard in in is Overtime Cook's Pretzel Crusted Chicken Fingers with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce. I make this almost every single Shabbos for lunch. I obviously don't use the salt in the recipe, and I also use Utz Sourdough Specials Unsalted Pretzels instead of regular pretzels. They are OU and Pareve. I crush them up in my mini blender, throw them in a ziploc and freeze them in bulk. The only sodium in this recipe ends up being the chicken (which cannot be avoided!). But using the no salt mustard and pretzels eliminates everything else -- and there is absolutely nothing lost from it.
I also eat this as a snack with Snyder's Unsalted Mini Pretzels, which are also 0 mg of sodium. They are OU, but are Dairy. Don't despair because we have a list of other Pareve snacks and chips which you can use to dip instead!
Be careful, as Westbrae also makes a Dijon Style mustard which has 55mg of sodium per teaspoon. The Dijon version is NOT 0 mg of sodium like the Stoneground No Salt Added version.
If you love this mustard, buy a case on Amazon. Commitment phobic? That's fine. Buy just one to get started and taste it first. It is available elsewhere as well. Healthy Heart Market has it, as does Walmart and Whole Foods.
I have used Westbrae in both Not Your Canned Baked Beans and LoSo Barbecue Sauce. But honestly, the list of recipes where it can be used goes on and on. It works for any recipe that uses mustard. So start looking through your cookbooks, and taking out those old recipes you thought you would never make again. Trust me, you will use this again and again.
