This past week we highlighted Granolachik homemade granola as our featured product. It tastes great, and is very low in sodium. However, the price isn't great. And sometimes, you don't want to be bothered checking labels of packaged products at the store. Sometimes it's just easier to make your own. Granola is one of those times, and it is pretty easy to make LoSo homemade granola. It is simple to double the recipe, and store tightly in mason jars for as many as six months. You can also freeze granola in a Ziploc freezer bag. (Make sure you remove the air from the bag before storing.)
If you are careful when making the granola, you can have a nearly zero sodium treat. But you need to check every ingredient to make sure it has no sodium. Because of course, not every product (even from the same brand!) has the same sodium content.
Here are the exact ingredients I use when I make my homemade granola. Every single ingredient except for one have 0 mg of sodium. And the one ingredient that isn't 0 mg is 5 mg. I think we can all agree that 5 mg is basically zero!
Of course, there are other ingredients you can use in your homemade granola to make it your own. Made in Nature Goji Berries, sold at Costco, can be another great addition with only 1 mg of sodium. Raisins or dried mango are another way to go. Change up your nuts -- just make sure they are unsalted!
Your granola will taste great, be fresh, and best of all will be a grand total of 5 mg of sodium for the entire recipe.
